Human Creativity and AI

Human Creativity and AI

The other day, while discussing our company's mission with a venture capitalist, the conversation turned to whether human creativity will someday be overtaken by AI such as ChatGPT.

I am convinced that no matter how far AI or AGI advances, it will never surpass human creativity.

This belief stems from a fundamental difference between the nature of creativity and the capabilities of AI.

First, creativity is the ability to generate new ideas and solutions that go beyond existing frameworks and patterns. This process requires intuition, emotion, and an understanding of complex human relationships. Human creativity is rooted in experience, cultural background, personal values, and inspiration that wells up from the depths of the unconscious.

Many people describe this inspiration as "an idea suddenly falling from the universe." I cannot say whether such an antenna truly exists, but I have had many experiences of this kind myself, and it does not seem to be a mere illusion.

Whether this should be called creativity, I am not sure, but at the very least these elements are uniquely human, and it is difficult for AI or AGI to fully reproduce them through imitation or learning.

AI and AGI, on the other hand, excel at learning patterns from vast amounts of data and executing tasks based on that learning. However, because these systems fundamentally operate on input data and programmed rules, they cannot spontaneously produce creative ideas through intuition or emotion. Moreover, since AI and AGI lack the diverse cultural backgrounds and emotional experiences that humans have (which could be called bias, in a good sense), it is impossible for them to fully grasp the depth and complexity of human creativity.

For these reasons, I believe that however far AI or AGI evolves, it will not reach the core of human creativity. That is precisely why Qualiteg aims to harness the power of technology to provide an environment where people can generate new ideas and bring out their creativity.

AI and AGI can play a role in supporting and extending human creativity, but we firmly believe that the true source of creativity lies in human beings themselves.
